FDOT’s Safe Mobility for Life Partners with The VHA Educational Workshop

“You Hold the Keys to your Transportation Future”

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) ‘Safe Mobility for Life Coalition’, in partnership with The Villages Homeowners Advocates (VHA), will be hosting a free workshop that will provide residents helpful information and resources for remaining safe and mobile during their retirement.

The workshop, titled “You Hold the Keys to your Transportation Future” will take place on Monday, October 9, 2023, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center, located at 510 Colony Blvd. in The Villages.

This workshop aims to educate residents on the keys to achieve safe mobility for life, which are to:

  • Understand the impact aging has on safe driving.
  • Be proactive about safe driving skills and using other modes of transportation.
  • Plan for a safe transition from driving.

“We believe that you hold the keys to your transportation future,” said Gail Holley, Safe Mobility for Life Program and Research Manager with the Florida Department of Transportation. “Natural age-related changes can present challenges that make it hard to solely rely on driving a personal vehicle to get to the places you need and want to go.  The Villages is an excellent example of a community that is being proactive in helping residents learn how to meet their transportation needs, beyond driving.”

During this event, participants will receive educational materials and resources that will help them remain safe and mobile to maintain their active lifestyles.
