    Florida Dept. of Veterans Affairs

At the end of World War II, the State of Florida recognized the need to provide ‎services to returning service members and created a division within state ‎government to connect Veterans with their earned benefits. To address the growing Veteran population, Florida voters in 1988 overwhelmingly approved a ‎Constitutional Amendment to create a Cabinet Agency to “Honor Those Who ‎Served U.S.” Today, the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) is the premier ‎point of entry for Florida’s nearly 1.5 million Veterans to access earned services, benefits and ‎support. ‎FDVA ‎‎operates a ‎‎network of nine State Veterans’ Homes and provides statewide outreach to connect Veterans, their families, and survivors ‎‎with earned services, benefits and support.

Florida's Long Term Care Ombudsman Program

In the state of Florida, a long-term care ombudsman is a trained volunteer who helps to improve the quality of care and quality of life for residents of long-term care facilities such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and adult family care homes. Nearly 60% of long-term care residents in Florida do not receive visits from family members and friends. They may feel alone, isolated and that they have no voice in the daily care they receive. Unfortunately, many of them do not have anyone to look out for their best interests when it comes to their personal rights, health, safety and welfare. Volunteer ombudsmen are community members, from all walks of life, who are passionate about improving the life for residents living in long-term care facilities. They are trained to work with residents and their family members to communicate concerns and resolve problems by providing advocacy, support, education and empowerment. These volunteers simply want their time and talents to make a difference in improving the lives of people who may be elderly and/or disabled. We are proud to be a unique program whose success depends on the commitment, courage and compassion of volunteers. Ombudsmen are the heart of our program. These special individuals dedicate thousands of unpaid hours each year to ensuring that the voices of Florida’s long-term care facility residents are heard and problems resolved.

    01About Us

“I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Then said I, “Here am I, send me.” (Isaiah 6:8) This is the command we follow. This is what we live by.  We asked God, “break our heart with what breaks yours.”  And He did.  He sent us on a journey we can never return from. It began here in the United States with a calling to meet needs in our local communities.  We gathered and provided food for the food pantries.  Helped underprivileged families receive clothing and necessary medical attention through local churches and outreaches.  Assisted larger organizations like the Salvation Army to brighten the lives of children around the holidays with bikes and other Christmas wishes.  And in so doing, we have attracted a small army of volunteers to both donate money, time and energy to join us in meeting those needs. Then God sent us to Africa, specifically Uganda and South Sudan, and broke our hearts even more.  He opened our eyes to His hidden treasures, the children and asked, “Are your children in America worth any more than my children in Africa? Are you willing to stand up for these children and meet their needs too?” When we said, “Yes Lord,” He opened doors for us and put us in contact with those best suited to meet those needs.  Experienced people on the ground in Uganda who already had a God-given love for the people.  Those who knew how to get things done efficiently and effectively. So be assured, this is not about us.  But us meeting the basic physical and spiritual needs of those who have no one else to turn to.  Needs that most of us take for granted each and every day. We are just Lila and Richard Vilain who have had our hearts broken by God to Follow the Need.  To be obedient to His will. When He was on earth Jesus told us, “The harvest is ready, but the laborers are few.” It was true then, it’s even more so now.  Time is running out. So many still don’t know what our Savior did for them.  We have to tell them.  We do that by showing them the love of God in first meeting their needs.  Then introducing them to the Gospel with its transforming power to make them new creatures in Christ.  And fulfilling his great commission to advance the kingdom of God. If God has also broken your heart for the least fortunate, please join us and support us as we change lives forever. Just click on the button below.

    02Mission

Follow The Need International exists to save lives and alleviate suffering in times of humanitarian crisis.  We are a Christian faith-based humanitarian organization that exists to provide physical and spiritual nourishment to needy and impoverished communities, as well as communities in crisis through effective, locally established programs.  Follow The Need does exactly what it says…we fill the need wherever our heart is called.   It is our obedience to our God that sets us on our path in any role we play.
We work in four countries Uganda, South Sudan, the United States and Ukraine.  First and foremost, we focus our support in saving lives, survival, and rebuilding lives.  We give special attention to the vulnerable children.  Secondly, we strongly emphasize education and economic development.  Thirdly we believe in working with Local people who know their communities and culture and have a stake in their communities.  We identify and train potential locals and indigenous leaders that have God’s spirit and can run with our programs.  Fourth, We believe in working partnerships with other organizations with the same values that have the expertise or who can compliment our programs.  Sharing resources, knowledge and experience can create a greater impact on communities.  And Finally, we know that to have a lasting change and transform situations is by making Christ the cornerstone and foundation of their daily lives.

Donations accepted in the drop-off bin include new children's clothing, school supplies, art supplies and toys, full-sized toiletries and new linens. Currently there is a big push for underwear for boys and girls in all sizes. All donations benefit the children living in the Ocala National Forest. The majority of the children live in poverty, and when they receive new items it makes a world of difference. All donations of money benefit the children in the form of supplies, improvements to the camp facilities and scholarships. To make sure the church will be open to drop off donations, call the church office at 352-753-8484 beforehand. For more information email [email protected]." The Villages Daily Sun, 2/1/24 Sozo Kids is a program developed and run by Help Agency of the Forest, Inc. Who are we? The Help Agency is a 501(c)3, non profit organization that has been serving those in rural poverty since 1993. There are approximately 45,000 people live within the borders of the Ocala National Forest, the second oldest and second largest forest in the United States, established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1908. Within these 430,000 acres of residential land are living families and children in abject rural poverty. Recognizing this need, the Help Agency developed SoZo Kids in attempt to rescue as many families and children as possible. Between handing out groceries through our food banks and serving meals at feeding sites, we are now currently reaching more than 7,500 people every month. More than twenty years ago the Help Agency received their first donation from the local Winn-Dixie in the Ocala National Forest in the form of a $25 gift-certificate to help fill the empty shelves. Many of our clients live without electricity and running water, which made it evident that the need goes beyond the everyday food handout with compassion and love. The Help Agency also helps break with cycle of poverty through education, mentoring, teen pregnancy prevention and opportunities to a better future. Since that first day of giving back to the community, the Help Agency has developed different programs and avenues to help those in need.
