
As we enter 2025, the Villages Public Safety Department (VPSD) remains dedicated to enhancing emergency response capabilities, improving facilities, and expanding community outreach. Here’s a summary of key updates from February:
Emergency Response & Performance
- January 2025 Incidents:
- 77.2% of calls were related to Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
- 22.8% were fire or fire-related incidents.
- Ambulance Response Statistics for January 2025:
- Critical/High Acuity Calls: 6.8 min average response time.
- Moderate/Low Acuity Calls: 7.7 min average response time.
- Total January Transports: 1,552.
- FYTD Ambulance Response Statistics:
- Critical/High Acuity Calls: 6.7 min average response time.
- Moderate/Low Acuity Calls: 7.4 min average response time.
- Total FYTD Transports: 5,594.
Incident Highlight
- February 8, 2025 – Lithium-Ion Battery Fire:
- Location: CR 466A & Heald Way.
- A golf cart’s lithium-ion batteries caught fire. Station 44’s B-Shift responded with fire blankets to extinguish the flames.
- Total Response Time: 3 minutes and 59 seconds.
Station & Fleet Updates
- Station 48 celebrated its official Push-In Ceremony on January 29, 2025, with an Open House for Villages’ residents.
- Squad 50 is in its final inspection phase, with a review at the Pierce Plant in Appleton, WI, on February 24-26.
Looking Ahead
In January, 70.7% of calls were answered within 8 minutes, and we continue working toward our goal of reducing response times to 5 minutes and 20 seconds when fully staffed and with new stations operational.
