I recently had dinner with a couple who have just moved to The Villages. In fact, the gentleman only retired in January 2026. What to do first? Work on the golf game. Sure. He wants to set a lower handicap. We share that goal. He wants to read more, play pickleball and even take a nap in the afternoon. All these goals are attainable.

There was a part of the conversation that evening that evolved around the safety and security he feels in our community. In fact, he drove conversation to these facts twice during the evening. These factors were a major consideration in this couple choosing The Villages. We have gates, cameras, community watch, low speed limits, and a sense of caring that he has not found elsewhere.

The factors that I have reviewed above are factors that The VHA works to ensure every day at various meetings in the community. It is one of the VHA functions. Another is golf cart safety. We offer sixteen golf cart safety clinics in various locations in 2026. Free. Would you believe that only about 5% of our residents have participated in this free course? Why? I struggle to find the answer. Golf cart safety is constantly a part of conversation at various board meetings. To enhance the safety of our residents the VHA Golf Cart Safety team leaders will offer to present the course as a program for your lifestyle group. Sure, it is an added burden to the team, but it is worth the extra effort.

I hope that as you read this copy you will also read in the Daily Sun that the AAC has voted to stop kicking the can down the road and will make safety changes to Morse North. This discussion has been ongoing for years. It is time for the discussion to cease.

The VHA is a philanthropic recognized organization not a political action committee. I would like to remind residents north of SR466 that three AAC seats will be up for election this November. Take a good look at who your representative is and determine if you want to continue with the “can-kicking-down-the-street crew.” You can make changes. You deserve a board that works every day to enhance the infrastructure of our community.
