The VHA theme is Get Involved, Make a Difference. This month we are talking about The Hogeye Preserve Disc Golf Course.

During January 2024, The Hogeye Preserve Disc Golf Course opened in a beautiful setting adjacent to the Hogeye Preserve. Mostly in the shade, with several benches along the way, the course is a fantastic addition to our community. The Chain Gang Disc Golf Club was instrumental in developing and implementing this course.

Equipment to play is available to check out at the Everglades Recreation Center. From there, the course is a short ride along Marsh Bend Path North to the second entrance to the Hogeye Preserve Nature Trail.

For under $40, you can purchase your own set of discs and bag on the internet.

The Villages Chain Gang Disc Golf Club provides lessons every Tuesday at the Everglades Rec Center Soccer Fields (across from the softball fields). They supply discs and set up portable disc golf baskets. No reservation is required.

During 2023, The Villages Elementary of Lady Lake School requested help starting a disc golf program. The Chain Gang Disc Golf Club raised money to provide all the disc golf equipment needed to allow 750 students to learn how to play disc golf.

Anyone can enjoy this great outdoor activity.

Disc golf is truly a minimal-impact, injury-free sport where even non-athletes can excel.

The Villages Chain Gang Disc Golf Club has grown substantially and now has over 450 members who get together and play in groups of up to 35 players.
