Decision time

On November 8, 2022, there will be a referendum on the General Election ballot for Sumter County residents living within and near The Villages to decide if The Villages Independent Fire Control & Rescue District will provide Fire and EMS services pursuant to Chapter 191, Florida Statutes.

This implements a series of community decisions developed and made over the last several months involving a community consensus arrived amongst your elected officials from the community development districts, the Sumter County Commission and administration, and many opinion leaders in our community. The Legislature and Governor have agreed to allow this evolution in service. The next step is for the electors to review—YOU DECIDE!

As a Sumter County resident living within and near The Villages, your decision will be voiced by voting on the November 8th referendum. To ensure that every eligible voter has all of the necessary information and can read about what this means for them, we have created a page on the District website that has answers to frequently asked questions we’ve received.  In addition, we have put together two educational videos to provide additional clarification. To access these informational resources, go to our home page at and click on The Villages Independent Fire Control and Rescue District in the Quick Links box.  If you have any questions, please contact the District Administration office at 352-751-3939.
