Mark your calendar:  If you are tired of paying hundreds of dollars each month for cable t.v., come to the VHA workshop “Cutting the Cord” on July 19, 2018 at 7 p.m. at La Hacienda Recreation Center.  This is a free workshop for VHA members only. Join at the door!  Seating on first come, first served basis.

Closed:  The following will be closed or have scheduled maintenance:  Chula Vista Pickleball and Tennis Courts will be closed until at least Monday, July 13 for renovations and resurfacing. La Hacienda Rec Center will be closed on July 7

Sumter County Micro Paving:  Beginning on July 9, Sumter County will be micro paving several roadways and impacted residences will receive a door knocker with additional information prior to the work beginning.  Streets are identified in newsletter online at Welcome Wednesday 6/27/2018 or call the County at 689-4400.

Postal Facility Cleanliness:  To maintain our postal facilities please: do not place unwanted phone books there; do not tape or affix flyers or other paperwork on the exterior of the bulletin boards or other areas of the postal facility; make sure you place all cans inside the Lions Club receptacles not stacked on top of or near them; take junk mail and pet waste home for disposal or recycling.

Recreation Events:  July opportunities on Lake Sumter from 7:30-9:30 a.m., are Kayaking on July 5, 12 and 19 for up to 8 participants at $25 each; Nature Pontoon Tours on July 6 and 20 for up to 4 participants at $25 each and Guided Fishing Tours on July 7,13, 14, 21, 27 and 28 for up to 4 anglers for $250.

Reverse Aging:  The Enrichment Academy Speaker Series by Dr. Shai Efrati at Lake Miona Rec Center, Monday July 2 at 10 a.m.   Limited tickets available.

Did You Know:  The average number of lightning flashes in Florida each year is 1,170,979.  Lightning can strike 10 miles away from the storm so remember:  When Thunder Roars, Go Indoors.  

Rules for Fences and Railings:  There are regulations for homes, courtyard villas and patio villas. For patio villas, other than originally constructed, fences and railings are prohibited.

 For homes:

  • Fences may be used to screen condenser/compressor units, pool pumps and related equipment and can’t be higher than the unit(s) itself.
  • Railings or fences are permitted around patio slabs so long as they are wrought iron, aluminum, plastic, concrete or other aesthetically pleasing material no higher than 48 inches.
  • Railings or fences are permitted across the front of the home and or abutting the front walkway so log as they meet the same requirements of material and height described above.
  • No other fences or railings are permitted.
  • Railings or fences are not permitted on either side lengthwise of the driveway.

 For courtyard villas:

  • No fences or railings are permitted on the front of the courtyard villa
  • Railings or fences are permitted around patio slabs so long as they are wrought iron, aluminum, plastic, concrete or other aesthetically pleasing material no higher than 48 inches.

Holiday Closures:  District Customer Service Center and all District Administrative Offices will be closed on July 4. Welcome Wednesday will not be held either.  CDD Orientation will not be held on Thursday, July 5.  The ARC July 4th meeting has been rescheduled to July 5 due to the holiday.  Recreation centers, outdoor facilities and swimming pools will remain open on July 4 with activities ending at 6 p.m., centers closing at 9 p.m. and outdoor facilities and swimming pools closing at dusk.   Fitness Clubs will be closed.   The Recreation Offices will be closed on July 4.  Guest ID card services, trail fees and activity registration will be available July 4 from 8-noon at La Hacienda, Lake Miona, Eisenhower and Rohan Regional Recreation Centers.  

Sanitation Information: For Districts 1-11:  There will be no yard waste collection on Wednesday July 4.  It will be collected on Saturday, July 7.  If you live in the Lake County portion of The Villages, get information from Lake County Solid Waste at 343-3776, for the Lady Lake portion of The Villages, Waste Management can be reached at 787-4416.
