VHA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SECOND ANNUAL BIG BASH! Jane Bloom, President The VHA Community Foundation is excited to announce that on Tuesday, October 20th, from 5-9 pm at the Savannah Center, Rocky and The Rollers will headline our second annual Big Bash, along with a catered dinner of amazing smoked meats and sides from Spanky’s BBQ.  Tickets will go on sale at through The Villages Box Office in mid-August at a cost of $75 per person. For those businesses and entrepreneurs who are friends of The Villages, we are seeking sponsorships for the event as well as auction items.  If you would like to discuss either of these opportunities, please call Jane Bloom at 352 391 0899.  Early sponsorship will allow for maximization of opportunity for including your business or yourself in the advertising for the event. For those who may not be familiar, The VHA Community Foundation (VHACF) is a nonprofit organization which strives to be the premier philanthropic catalyst in The Villages, Florida to receive monetary gifts and grants in order to meet the needs of residents, employees and students, with a focus of prevention programs, emergency response, and enhancements for the well-being of those who live in and visit the community. Our most recent achievement in working toward fulfilling our mission has been a very successful partnership with the loved local performer Petrina.  Petrina and I got together last year to discuss her desire to do something for the community; something that would share her positive energy and her belief that recognizing youth who make a difference to their peers is a way to encourage inclusiveness and kindness.  Petrina has donated $1 from each ticket sold from her special performances as well as collected individual and generous donations from her family and followers to go toward the SPARKLE Scholarship that has been created with the VHA Community Foundation.  SPARKLE stands for Support, Protect, Act, Respect, Kindness, Lift Spirits and Encourage. On May 19th at The Villages High School, Petrina and The VHA Community Foundation presented scholarships to three high school students who emulated the values of the SPARKLE scholarship.  The total amount of the scholarships given out in 2015 was $2500.  In 2016, we are looking to also expand to Wildwood High School and provide scholarship support to a student or students there as well.  To date, over $4,000 has been raised for the SPARKLE Scholarship including funds from a golf tournament organized by Friends of Petrina on May 28th.  If you are interested in contributing, please call Jane Bloom or email Jane at  A portion of funds raised at the October VHA Community Foundation Big Bash will also go toward the scholarship fund. If the work we are doing at The VHA Community Foundation interests you, and if you have energy, time and a passionate desire to promote and actualize our mission statement, I would love to hear from you.  We are looking for Board members and Committee members, those who want to do something to really make a difference in the lives of those we live and work with in The Villages.
