VHA Community Foundation
THE VHA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION UPDATE By Jane Bloom, President The VHA Community Foundation is getting ready for our Dinner/Auction/Dance featuring The Dorels with catering by Sakura on Thursday, October 30, 2014 from 6-9 pm at the Colony Cottage Recreation Center from 6-9 pm. This is a Bring your Own Beverage event. Ice, coffee and water will be provided. There are going to be some great auction items for you to bid on in the silent auction, delicious food and an evening of dancing to the fantastic music that the Dorels offer. Tickets cost $27 and can be purchased from The Villages Box Office or online at: http://www.thevillagesentertainment.com/ If you have a table of 8 friends coming, please call Jane Bloom at 425-299-6020 and I will RSVP a table in your name, so you are sure to all sit together. Already many tables have been reserved, so don’t wait too long to get your tickets! I am also delighted to announce a partnership that is being formed with our very own local performer in The Villages, the lovely Petrina. Petrina wanted to do something to make a difference in the lives of youth in our community, so after getting together to discuss what that could look like, we came up with the idea of a joint partnership between The VHA Community Foundation and Petrina, to offer a scholarship to a Villages High School senior beginning in this 2014-2015 school year. The Scholarship is called The SPARKLE Scholarship and it stands for all the letters in the word SPARKLE-Support, Protect, Act, Respect, Kindness, Lift Spirits and Encourage. It is very symbiotic with the mission of The VHA Community Foundation which is: “The VHACF is a 501c3 nonprofit organization which strives to be the premier philanthropic catalyst in The Villages, Florida to receive monetary gifts and grants in order to meet the needs of residents, employees and students, with a focus on prevention programs, emergency response, and enhancements for the well-being of those who live in and visit the community.” While the parameters and details of this scholarship are being developed, the money for the scholarship will come primarily through performances by Petrina, where $1 from every ticket sold from her November 15th and February 27th shows at the American Legion will go toward THE SPARKLE SCHOLARSHIP, with another performance that is being planned for later spring in The Villages, for Villagers, and part of the proceeds will also go toward SPARKLE for the 2015-2016 school year. We look forward to having the scholarship presented at Awards Night at the Villages High School along with a presentation at a General Meeting of the Villages Homeowners Association where the VHA Community Foundation will have the SPARKLE recipient attend and be recognized, along with their family members. The recipient will also be invited to the spring fundraising performance by Petrina, to attend with those important in their life, and be recognized at the performance as well. Individual donations can also be made to the Scholarship Fund by writing your check to The VHA Community Foundation and writing SPARKLE SCHOLARSHIP as the recipient. All donations are tax deductible. The Board of Directors of The VHA Community Foundation is working with diligence to provide a Community Foundation that you can be proud to call your own. This is a Foundation that belongs to all residents of The Villages, no membership required! We are focusing on raising funds to meet our Mission and to enhance the lives of Villagers, employees, students, and those that pass through our beautiful, vibrant, caring and unique place that we call home. We would love for you to attend our October 30th Dinner/Auction/Dance with the Dorels and share our excitement as we celebrate our generous community and the possibilities which exist to strengthen our abilities to help one another when the need arises. Call me if you would like to talk, discuss your interest in a donation, consider us in your gift planning, or if you have questions or suggestions you would like to share.
