Welcome American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center

Patients and families may be overwhelmed when they hear the word Cancer, and are often immobilized by fear and uncertainty.  At this point, they need someone to serve as a knowledgeable, supportive guide as they begin a life-changing journey. Did you know there is a place here in The Villages® that can help?  The American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center is now located on the 3rd Floor of The Villages® Regional Medical Center East Campus Building.  The address is 1501 North U.S. Highway 441, Suite 1834.  The Center is there to help patients find their way through many of the issues they face.  Trained volunteers provide information about the services and programs cancer patients need.  They also offer one free wig and other items to assist patients who are dealing with cancer.  Linda Klingensmith, (pictured left) and Marie Hulsizer (right),  are two of our volunteers who serve as advocates for cancer patients.  They shared the joy they experience as they assist individuals who are dealing with the side effects to their appearance caused by the cancer treatment.   “Helping people feel better about the way they look is very rewarding.  It really does a lot for their self-confidence,” they noted.   According to Tenna Pappas, Program Manager with the American Cancer Society, “The support that The Villages® Regional Hospital has given to the American Cancer Society Cancer Resource Center has been amazing.  Understanding the value of the services the American Cancer Society provides to patients and giving our volunteers a place to assist patients who are dealing with the effects of a cancer diagnosis has been a huge success.” Many other organizations throughout the area have contributed to the Center’s efforts.  “The Villages® community has also been so supportive of our mission and our patients.  Together we can make a difference, showing our cancer patients that truly no one fights alone!” Teena added. The Center is open on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  To schedule an appointment or learn more about the Cancer Resource Center, call 352-561-8845.
