CERT of The Villages

The Villages’ Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is entering 10th year with over 200 trained members standing ready to support first responders in any emergency.  Charles Miner, who grew the CERT program to its current strength in numbers and proficiency, has recently turned over the reins of leadership to new Commander of CERT of The Villages Wayne Ward.

Each CERT member has 30 hours of training on disaster preparedness and assistance to families, neighbors, and the community in a medical emergency or disaster and members participate in refresher training sessions and drills.  CERT is proficient in CPR/A.E.D. use and support special events in The Villages like parades and holiday celebrations with CERT stations that include the presence of A.E.D.s.

CERT funding was provided by the Department of Homeland Security and developed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  The Villages CERT is a joint partnership with The Public Safety Department and The Villages Homeowners Association.  Villagers who are interested in becoming a CERT member may obtain an application at www.certofthevillages.org or call 751-3520.
