Resident ID Updates

The Resident ID replacement program is continues smoothly.  About 35,000 of the new counterfeit-proof ID’s have been issued.  Appointments for new ID’s are being made for October.  Walk-in’s at the District Customer Service Office are possible each day.  The waiting line is generally 10-20 residents, with each ID taking about five minutes to process and issue.

The Villages – Biggest, Best – and now Most Unusual

Last month Fortune’s Online Magazine ran an article on America Most Unusual Planned Communities listing The Villages first among six communities throughout the United States with unusual characteristics.  Two of the other five were also in Florida. 

Crossing Buenos Aires

The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners is considering a designated crossing on Buenos Aires Boulevard, which has been open to golf cart access since July 2007 when commissioners lifted golf cart prohibition.

Detours Rapidly Changing

Watch the Daily Sun News, log on to the District Government website, or sign up for email notification (on districtgov.org) to stay up to date on closings and detours during the Multi-modal Path Project construction  through November.  Email notification will give you the latest on lots of other District information in The Villages.

AAC Committeeman Voting

Three AAC Seats are up for election in November.  Districts 1 and 2 are uncontested, and incumbent Carl Bell will serve again for District 1, while new-comer Ann Forrester will be the Committeewoman for District 2.  Lady Lake / Lake County Region Villagers can file for absentee ballots now through October 25th or vote at the Paradise Center from 7am to 7pm on November 2nd.  Sorry, no early voting for AAC Seats.

Newcomer Orientation Locations Changing Month-to-Month

VHA sponsored Newcomer Orientation will be 7 pm Tuesday, August 10th at Colony Cottage.  Repairs continue with completion date still uncertain at Canal Street Recreation Center.  Watch for updates in the VHA’s The Villages Voice, The Daily Sun News, and the Recreation News for times and location

Best Retirement Community Copies

The VHA continues to receive requests for the June issue of The Villages Voice that was filled with information and statistics on The Villages as the best retirement community in America.  Additional hard copy issues are no longer available, but electronically available in pdf format (easily emailed to family and friends) are back issues of The Voice on the VHA website: www.thevha.net
