Joan is an invaluable senior staff and advisory board member who serves as our efficient and reliable secretary. She schedules and reserves meeting venues, compiles the Town Hall questions and puts together the answer summaries, creates our agendas and meeting minutes, and is responsible for most of our email communications.

Joan grew up and raised her family on Long Island, New York. She is the proud mother of two daughters and one son as well as the proud grandmother of five grandchildren. She lives in Hickory Grove Villas in the Village of Sunset Pointe. With both a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Reading with Emphasis in Learning Disabilities, Joan taught elementary school for 31+ years. During her years of teaching she became interested in hearing both sides of situations while working alongside teachers and administrators. This led her to become a representative to her teachers’ association representing the teachers in her building. The last five years of her career Joan was elected as Vice President representing approximately 200 elementary teachers in that school district.

After retiring and moving to The Villages in 2005, Joan joined The VHA and became a Neighborhood Representative. She continues to be interested in understanding both sides of issues while now listening and collaborating with residents and those who work to keep The Villages moving forward. Besides being involved with The VHA, she enjoys working in the garden, playing golf, reading and knitting.
