South Area News (South of 44) – February/March 2023
The new year is in full swing, with many part-time residents returning. It is great to see so many people out and about!
Construction continues on wonderful new amenities and villages south of 44. The Village of Newell now has residents! Two new pitch and putt courses have recently opened. Richmond Pitch and Putt and MickyLee Pitch and Putt are both now opened. The new recreation center at Lake Okahumpka is also now open. They offer free kayak lessons and the view of the lake is just wonderful with a nice walking path.  (picture by Ronnie Clark, below) Construction of the Southern Oaks Bridge is moving ahead with the barriers for the golf cart lane appearing this past week.
We’re also seeing more homeowner involvement in the Community Development Districts south of 44. We now have 3 homeowners elected by their neighbors on the CDD 13 Board of Supervisors. One of them, Gary Frigolia, is the Chairperson for the Board of Supervisors. CDD 13 also has their first member on the very important Project Wide Advisory Committee (PWAC), Tina Williamson, who is also a newly elected Supervisor for CDD 13.
The VHA neighborhood representatives make an effort to attend the monthly CDD meetings and bring up concerns they hear about from their neighbors. These are very informative meetings and are open to the public. If you have a chance to attend, I hope you visit to meet your neighbors who represent you and also bring forth any issues of concern. I can tell you from attending these meetings that it is a great opportunity to hear what’s going on within your local CDD.
The representatives from the various agencies that attend (CDD Board members, District government, other municipal agencies as appropriate) listen carefully to all concerns and provide answers to many questions.
