    State Senior Services Help Line

The Department of Elder Affairs administers programs and services for elders across the state of Florida through 11 Area Agencies on Aging, which operate as Aging and Disability Resource Centers (ADRCs). These ADRCs function as a single, coordinated system for information and access to services for all Floridians seeking long-term care resources. The ADRCs provide information and assistance about state and federal benefits, as well as available local programs and services. See below to contact your local ADRC. By sharing a common information and referral system, the ADRCs are able to provide elders with uniform assistance no matter where they live. This system also offers the public access to a statewide database of local community resources, available on the internet or by calling the Elder Helpline toll-free at 1-800-96 ELDER (1-800-963-5337).

    Sumter County Emergency Alert

    AlertSumter

alertsumterSumter County is changing the emergency mass notification system to AlertSumter. AlertSumter will offer robust emergency notification to the residents of Sumter County. AlertSumter is part of the Florida Division of Emergency Management's initiative to provide mass notification services to all Florida residents and businesses using Everbridge, Inc. as the statewide provider. Sumter County will use AlertSumter to alert residents about a variety of events, ranging from severe weather, fires, floods and other emergencies. Messages will be sent to residents by their preferred contact paths either cell phone, text, home phone, email, fax, pager and more to ensure real-time access to potentially lifesaving information. THIS SYSTEM WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES! The primary use of AlertSumter is to notify residents of an immediate emergency such as severe weather (for example, tornado warnings and other significant National Weather Service bulletins), but may also be used to alert a neighborhood to watch for a lost child, an impaired individual who has walked away, or dangerous individuals that may be in the area. If you recieve a AlertSumter message:
    • Listen carefully
    • Follow the instructions in the message
    • Do not hang up until you hear the whole message
    • DO NOT call 911 unless directed to do so by the message
The system is only as good as the telephone database supporting it. If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called. The AlertSumter system not only offers faster calling rates and improved message delivery, it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers directly to the system's telephone database. This is an extremely important feature.
