Fred was born and raised in Somerset, PA living most of his working years in Pittsburgh. Fred, and his wife Corda, moved full time to The Villages in 2005. They have two children and two grandsons. Karen and her husband Jamie along with their two boys Nathaniel and Nicholas, live in St. Louis. Rob is single living in Ft. Lauderdale. Fred graduated from Shippensburg State College (now Shippensburg University) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 1972. Since then, he has spent 40 plus years in healthcare regulatory finance while employed with Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield (formerly Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania), Pricewaterhouse Coopers (formerly Coopers and Lybrand), Allegheny Health Education and Research Foundation and ultimately retiring from Compliance Concepts, Inc. Since moving to The Villages, Fred and Corda owned and operated Turtle Bay Clothing Company which was an interesting venture since neither one had prior retail management experience. Fortunately for Fred, Corda did most of the work being responsible of the operation of the store while Fred maintained the accounting records and tax filings. During that time both were active with the Spanish Springs Merchants Association. In addition, Fred and Corda have begun to usher at the Savannah Center. Up to now, The Villages has been their “Disney World for Adults”! Being able to give back through the VHA Community Foundation is a great opportunity.
I am from Waltham, Massachusetts, and an RN graduating from Malden Hospital School of Nursing. I have worked most of my 45-year career in the Operating Room, as a staff nurse, preceptor, and Nurse Manager and I retired 3 years ago from the Mass General Hospital Orthopaedic Sports division. I have a son Michael and gained a beautiful “daughter” when he married his high school sweetheart, Lynne. They reside in Billerica, Ma. “I came to The Villages almost three years ago as a snowbird, but realized very quickly that I loved the milder winters, so that made for an easy decision to make Florida my permanent home. I also wanted to volunteer, and what better organization for me than Helping Hands. It is such a great concept, and one that serves this community in a big way”. I live in the village of El Cortez and enjoys swimming, dancing, walking, the arts, and entertainment.
