Veterans’ Corner – VA Assistance to Veterans & Widows Who Need Medical Assistance
The VA has a program to provide financial assistance to wartime veterans & widows of wartime veterans in helping to pay for assisted living/nursing home or in-home care expenses.
This program, commonly known as Aid & attendance, can provide up to $1700 to single veteran, $2,000 for married veterans and $1094 for widows of wartime veterans. The amount of assistance is based on economic, which includes gross household income and liquid assets, and medical requirements. Individuals in assisted living facilities, not independent facilities, nursing homes, or require in-home care may qualify for this benefit.
This benefit, which is nationwide, has helped countless veterans and their widows afford the rising costs of nursing care. If you need additional information or assistance in applying for this benefit, please contact the Sumter County Veteran Service Office at (352) 689-4450. Our office can assist in applying for benefits for individuals who live outside The Villages and Florida.
