Thank you for reaching out to Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt, LLC on behalf of the residents at The Villages
to expre ss your concern regarding isolated product granule loss with certain Owens Corning ™ Oakridge®
shingles. Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt is pleased to be able to offer a resolution to the concern you have
Effective immediately, for any homeowner at The Villages, whose Oakridge® shingles were installed between
January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2010, that experienced granule loss which caused performance issues
Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt, will review and replace materials it determines are affected.
It’s important to note that for The Villages residences inspected to date, granule loss as described above was
found on only a limited number of the houses. Your residents should be assured that not all granule loss results
in a perfo rmance problem with the shingle and that granule loss may be due to causes other than the
manufacturing process, such as foot traffic (during the installation of the roof, stucco, skylights, solar panels, etc.),
damage due to mishandling, hail storms, misapplication, other alterations made to the roof, etc.
We are anxious to share this news with residents. We encourage you to use the attached copy about this
solution in the January 2014 newspaper.
Mr. Gottschalk, we thank you again for your patience and collaboration with this matter. We hope you find our
solution satisfactory, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with you and The Villages.
